Teenager Athlete Weight and Nutrition Basics

For a teenager athlete, chronic under-eating stalls growth, delays puberty, and increases injury risk. "Cutting" advice for adults does not translate.

Fuel first

Three balanced meals + 1–2 snacks. Carbs matter — they power training and growth.

Protein at ~1.4–1.8 g/kg from real food is plenty.

What to watch

Missed periods, chronic fatigue, plateaued height. These are red flags — see a sports-medicine doctor, not a diet plan.
