Healthy Weight for Men Over 50

After 50, men lose roughly 1% of muscle per year without training. The WHO/CDC BMI range still applies, but body composition matters more than the scale.

Aim slightly higher in the range

A 5'10" man over 50 typically fares better at the middle-to-upper end of the healthy BMI band, as long as waist stays under 35 inches.

Two non-negotiables

Strength training twice a week. Protein 1.6–2.0 g/kg spread over meals.
